Cuthbertson's was founded in 1938 by Tom Cuthbertson. His brother Andy joined the business when he returned from serving in World War II.
The two brothers split the work the old-fashioned way: Andy focused on maintaining engines, while Tom worked with wood - building and repairing hulls. Tom even designed and built boats of his own; a 23-foot "Cuthbertson Craft" from 1957 still turns heads on the river.
Andy's son Brian grew up following his father's footsteps, absorbing knowledge and learning the knack of keeping old engines running well. In addition to repair work, the yard offers summer dockage and indoor or outdoor winter storage at reasonable prices.
Pearl Beach, on the St. Clair River
The yard sits along the shores of the St. Clair River near Algonac, Michigan - the historic heartland of American pleasure boating, where Chris Craft, Garwood and Century runabouts were once built and are still lovingly kept alive. Accessible by road or by canal, it has served the boaters of Pearl Beach and the surrounding communities for the better part of a century.
Just like most vintage boat owners, our customers are eager to show off their beauties - which is how the long-running Featured Boat of the Month tradition began.
